Anna’s House will be a safe home for mothers and children struggling with homelessness in Oakland.
Anna’s House recognizes that many factors contribute to housing instability, including prior experiences with sexual assault or domestic violence. Anna’s House will offer a safe community for mothers who are working to overcome past trauma and striving to provide a loving, nurturing home for their children.
Anna’s House is named after Anna, a mother, sister, daughter and friend, who lost her life tragically after many years struggling with trauma resulting from sexual violence. BACS made the down payment for Anna’s House using funds donated in Anna’s memory. Now we are actively fundraising to renovate and furnish the home so that we can move moms and children into stable housing as soon as possible.

We have already raised $300,000 toward the purchase of the house and started renovations, including replacing the roof and installing a new (donated) HVAC system.
We are making great progress, but we still need to raise:
- $50,000 toward the fence, gate, garden, play area, outdoor furniture and shade
- $50,000 toward furnishings (beds, mattresses, furniture, housewares, appliances)
- $300,000 toward renovations (BACS did a total gut and remodel, inside and out)
- $250,000 to pay off the mortgage and lower ongoing monthly costs
Our total fundraising goal is $650,000, although the next phase – furnishing the house and adding a fence and gate – can be completed for under $100,000. Every dollar helps us get closer to our goal.
