Chair of BACS’ Cultural Responsiveness Committee Appointed!

February 16, 2017

BACS is delighted to announce the appointment of Sage Williams, MFT-Trainee and Personal Services Coordinator of BACS’ Homeless Outreach program, to the Chair of the BACS Cultural Responsiveness Committee!

The Cultural Responsiveness Committee’s goal is to bring a cultural perspective to how we work with participants, how we engage new participants, and how staff work to support each other. Sage’s role will be to create and lead initiatives, set and achieve committee goals, and provide cultural responsiveness leadership in the agency. Sage says, “At the end of the day, we are seeing the whole person, whether it is a staff member or a participant. The Committee is helping BACS adhere to its core values.”

Sage is originally from the Bay Area, but pursued his interest in the depths of human experience by moving across the country. Sage joined BACS on July 16, 2014 and has steadily been promoted three times in a short period of time, pointing to an excellence and high regard as a healer, a fierce voice for his community, and an individual that integrates his own cultural identity and individuality in his work with the people he serves. Also during this time, Sage has pursued higher education and is currently an MFT-Trainee.

Sage simultaneously has participated in transformational practices to increase the accessibility to our partners and has been a thought leader in our growth at BACS. Recently he has designed a Provider of Color Work group due to start the end of the month.

Sage is a self-starter, a colleague, a visionary. He recognizes the never-ending work of our mission and strives to lead our Committee to fight for the people we serve and to guide our agency in best practices, policy framework, and collaboration so that our services and interventions are premised in culturally responsive, strength-based, person-centered evidences.

Sage says “Culture is a part of everybody, and though we work with participants through mental health, housing, and physical well-being interventions, we have to hold and honor their culture.”

Please join us in congratulating Sage Williams on this mission-critical leadership position at BACS, that will have agency-wide scope and authority. Congratulations Sage!
