Many seniors are too frail to drive on their own, and getting around town on rapid transit can be very tiring, even dangerous. Because of this, BACS developed the senior transportation program to help seniors get to specific, preset locations in Alameda County. The shuttle operates Monday through Friday, from Requesting TransportationResidential Services Coordinators at each pick-up location can provide residents with a transportation form to complete with their travel date, time, and destination. The transportation form is then faxed or emailed to the BACS Transportation Program one day in advance. The next day, the riders are picked up as scheduled. The shuttle is staffed with a driver and an attendant who transports the riders to and from their destinations and provides boarding assistance and package storage. For more information, please contact the Transportation Program. Over the years, BACS' Oakland Senior Shuttle has received funding from the 7th Street McClymonds Neighborhood Improvement Initiative, made possible by the Hewlett Foundation and distributed by The San Francisco Foundation. Additional funding has been provided by the East Bay Community Foundation and through a portion of your tax dollars, via City of Oakland Measure B funds. Senior Shuttle Expansion ProjectBACS has been approved for funding through the Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority(ACTIA) to expand the senior shuttle service to the Oakland areas of Dimond, Fruitvale and East. North Alameda County Group Trip ProgramAdditionally, BACS has been approved by ACTIA to launch a pilot service in North Alameda County to provide group trip transportation for facility bound seniors and disabled persons in the cities of Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and Alameda. Funding for these services are through ACTIA's Paratransit Measure B Gap Grant Funds, which can be read in further detail at the following web address: www.acta2002.com
