Senior Homeless Program

For some seniors, the complex interaction between advancing age, failing physical and mental health, and low income will eventually lead to homeless.

Seniors lacking a safety net may turn to substance abuse to alleviate their loneliness, depression, or other symptoms, leading to further detachment and deeper despair.

The North County Senior Homeless Program is committed to doing “whatever it takes” to provide safe, appropriate housing for homeless seniors, regardless of their condition and without restrictions on their participation in other mental heath or substance abuse programs.

Our outreach staff identifies appropriate homeless seniors wherever we find them in our community. We then assist our clients in finding housing that they find suitable for their circumstances, where they can live without fear.

To help spread awareness of this program, we offer an informational flyer that you can post in your agency or center.

To refer a client to the program, please use our Client Referral Form.

John, an 83-year-old Oakland native, has a lifetime history of alcoholism and depression. He was staying in a homeless shelter when our North County Homeless Program contacted him to see if he would like help in finding permanent housing. Although he wasn't sure he could change, he was willing to try. BACS helped John find a safe room at an SRO. BACS’ unconditional support has changed John’s outlook on life and shown him his potential to be an agent for change in his community.
