Living with chronic mental illness can be extremely challenging, especially if those around you are poorly informed or see your disability as a cause for shame or embarrassment. Our Mental Health programs help our clients understand and discuss their illness, recognize and manage their symptoms, and receive the right mix of medical and counseling services to maximize their quality of life. Our Creative Living Centers are central to this effort. Each center offers a clubhouse environment where people can make friends, learn valuable skills, and find a place to belong. Some clients choose to explore employment opportunities, and BACS helps them find jobs while maintaining appropriate disability benefits. We believe that all people, regardless of ability or disability, deserve a safe place to live, and BACS has been a leader in providing affordable, supportive housing and case management to help our clients gain—and maintain—independent living skills. Through our rich understanding of the positive affect of a caring community on mental health, BACS helps clients move toward greater levels of integration and self-sufficiency. Eden Information and Referral - Linking People and Resources in Alameda County 211 2-1-1 is a free, non-emergency, confidential, 3-digit phone number and service that provides easy access to housing information, and critical health and human services. |
BACS really changed my life. They had so much faith in me. I was in a dark hole, but through everyone’s help I began to see the light at the end of the tunnel. — Taniya Aviles |
