Valley CLC, continued

Our Program

Valley CLC offers a wide range of programs.

Amador Valley Adult School, part of the Pleasanton Unified School District, places an Adult Education Instructor at our center. The instructor augments the program by facilitating groups in a variety of areas including hygiene, dressing for work, shopping skills, exercise, cooking, health, budgeting, social skills, problem solving techniques, and leisure skills.  Clients interested in obtaining a GED can develop an individual educational plan with the instructor.

A major highlight of Valley CLC is our client internship program, which enables a member of another CLC to work at Valley in a nine-to-twelve month paid internship. During this time, the individual has the opportunity to learn and practice skills that can lead to competitive employment.

In the three years this program has been in existence all three interns successfully completed their internships and independently obtained part-time competitive employment in the community. It is exciting and motivating for members to observe peers make the transition to meaningful work.

For members who are interested in seeking employment, we offer groups on improving job skills and provide individual support for job searches, in collaboration with the Department of Rehabilitation.

Additionally, each member contributes to the care and management of the house by performing voluntary tasks of their choice from among the list of needed activities. Members may choose tasks that provide training and the experience needed to transition into competitive employment.  Performing meaningful work enables members to see how they contribute to their community, and experience value in their role at the CLC.

Valley CLC is the only program of its kind in the Tri-Valley area.  We offer our members a place to find hope, empowerment, and a rich community to which they can belong.
